Hiking the South of France with Via Nissa

Have you considered hiking in the South of France?  While natural beauty can be found throughout the French and Italian rivieras, Via Nissa suggests you might want to consider two hiking trails which offer a unique historical perspective.  The first is the crossing the French – Italian border, using the same trail as todays illegal African migrants and  historically, the trail used for centuries by those seeking to escape to the West.  The second is a visit to medieval ghost towns which are usually from the thirteenth or fourteenth century and have been abandoned deep into the forest.  All hiking can be scenic and enjoyable, but adding a historical twist can make you excursion that much more interesting.
